How to Keep Your Dogs Healthy This Monsoon

After the scorching heat during the summer season, the monsoon brings a sigh of relief for our pets. They can now enjoy the little dribbles, play, and relax outdoors in pleasant weather. However, amid this enjoyment lies a high chance of infections, cough, cold, pneumonia, and many such diseases. Therefore here are five tips to keep your pets healthy this monsoon.

1. Monsoon Meal

One should pay close attention to your pet’s meal to keep your pet healthy during monsoon. You should not keep their food open for long as it can be contaminated and cause several infections. Veterinarians advise giving a fibre-rich diet to your pets. Additionally, serving warm pet meals and boiled drinking water helps keep their tummies healthy. Always consult a nutritionist for a supplement that can keep them healthy during monsoon.

2. Avoid Tick and Flea Attack

The rainy season can become a disaster for our pets if they catch ticks or fleas, as these parasites harm their health. To protect your pets from the attack of such ticks, groom them regularly and keep their beds clean and dry. Additionally, use anti-tick and flea shampoos, tick sprays, and powders to keep them away from your pets.

3. Regularly clean their ears and eyes

The ears and eyes of your pets have a high chance of getting infected during the monsoon season due to increased moisture levels. It is essential to keep your pet’s ears dry after baths and make sure to clean them gently to avoid any ear infections. You should also regularly clean their eyes and private regions with a warm cloth. The ears which are long and closed have a high chance of getting infected and call for much more attention during this season.

4. A raincoat is a must.

A pet raincoat is a must during the rainy season as unexpected showers can hinder your pet’s daily walk, and it is dangerous to keep your pets wet for a long time after you take them outside during rains. Pets can easily catch a cold during this season, so it is advisable to refrain from taking them out without raincoats. Make sure to buy a comfortable raincoat according to its size and shape so that your pet is fully covered and protected from rain. Also, before going for a walk, ensure the harness or leashes are dry before putting them on.

5. Thunderstorm and Pets

Thunderstorms make our pets anxious. Some become extremely frightened when they hear the cracks of thunder all around them. They may begin to shiver and become highly agitated. It would be best to close all of your windows to reduce noise pollution. You could try to keep them occupied with a puzzle to divert their attention. If a thunderstorm warning is issued, ensure your pet isn’t left out in the cold.

We hope you found these tips useful for your pets. Do share it with your friends who are new pet parents to keep them updated in advance.

Wishing you a happy Moonsoon
