homeless animals on the street

Happy International Homeless Animals Day

Every year, we witness an alarming surge in the plight of homeless pets, who are lost or abandoned or, worse, left astray to fend for themselves. Various organizations strive to curb these grave issues and help these voiceless creatures. International Homeless Animal Day is an initiative by the International Society for Animal Rights to make people aware of pet abandonment. It also strived to make everyone vigilant on issues of feral animals and the crucial benefits of neutering domestic animals.

The foundation for the great initiative was put in place in 1992 owing to the plight of many homeless and abandoned pets on the streets who were left to cater to their needs independently. It was also in response to the burgeoning demand for rescue centres and animal shelters that can provide a sweet and comfortable refuge to these lovely creatures.

The third week of August is dedicated to celebrating the lives of doe-eyed charms of our streets. International Homeless Animals Day aims to educate people about the existing and growing needs of homeless animals and make them aware of their responsibilities to help bring some amount of solace into the lives of these creatures. JaldeeVets has curated a list of beautiful ideas on how to celebrate the week and bestow a little joys to our hustling bubs.

Fostering

If you are someone who can’t commit to anything long-term but is eager to extend a benevolent hand to help the animals in your vicinity, fostering is your way out. You can tie up with the local shelters and bring the pups home temporarily. This can help the animals with the provision of new homely abodes to these little dearies. Many pet lives can be potentially saved with the help of fostering. Every shelter has a unique set of guidelines and procedures for fostering, so it’s always advisable to check these beforehand to know what would suit you the best.

Volunteering

The clockwork life of 9 to 5 often deprives us of the needful time and energy that we might need to take in a pet properly. However, if you eagerly want to bring out the pet lover inside but can’t because your schedule doesn’t allow it, volunteering can bring you sweet and fluffy treats. You can visit your local shelter and ask them for any pet-caring chores that need to be catered. The volunteering work indulges various activities, including walking or reading to the pets, cleaning duties, and ensuring a vet visit or vaccination appointment. Often, adoption events are conducted over the weekend, and the shelter might need help with that, so another activity on the table that you can volunteer.

Spread the Word

A chain of thought that binds the community and moves them to implement ideas is much more potent than we peg it for. The modern world, with its modern apparatus, provides us with abundant resources to advocate prominently for our cause. Unleash the power of social media platforms to support and propagate the cause of International Homeless Day to spread awareness on animal health, adoption of homeless animals, etc. You can always participate in the running and ongoing campaigns on online platforms to fulfil your bid of contribution.

Donate

Every small step matters in building a good shelter for our voiceless lovelies. The animal care centres appreciate small or big animal supplies. Food, towels, clothes, and toys are essential supplies and other vitals. It’s always advisable to call beforehand and check with your nearby shelters what supplies they require, which can also make your job much easier.
