Pet Myths Vs Facts : Dogs and Cats Edition

We all grew up with someone or the other in the family stopping us from doing certain things for no absolute reason. For those who did give a reason just made it even more absurd. Suppose it wasn’t your family, then a neighbor or a friend. Myths and misconception is a festering wound that keeps spreading and decaying with every press. Sometimes they come with such bogus but tall claims people believe them.

Illiteracy can be one of the reasons for the spread of rumors and myths. However, you can always spot a well-educated relative of yours holding up the most obscure misconceptions. So, the problem is broader than illiteracy but is often linked with societal dogma and unawareness on the part of people. When you are unaware or ignorant of a subject, you are ready to believe almost anything or everything.

The spread of myths isn’t just limited to human lives. Significant myths that are absurd and useless in nature crowd a pet’s life too. Due to the need for more concise information and awareness about a pet’s nutritional and behavioral life, it’s easy to fall prey to false fables. At Jaldee Vet, we would be busting out some of the pet myths vs. facts to help you learn more on the subject.

Myths Vs Facts: Dog Edition

Doggos are colourblind.

The most widely accepted myth of all time is that dogs are colorblind. Although partially true, the misconception has ultimately narrowed down the actual scenario. Dogs don’t see colors as humans do but aren’t entirely colorblind. They need help to differentiate between the colors red and green. But they can very well see hues of blue and yellow.

You shouldn’t hug your pooch.

We are still determining who started this rumor. But they were indeed not a big fan of dogs or even affection, to begin with. It is alright to shower your dog with a warm hug. However, the terms of it should be decided by them and not us. It depends highly on your relationship with the dog, whether it’s still new or a more excellent bond has been formed. In case of you later, you can let them come to you for hugs and not just overwhelm them all the time.

Dog’s mouths are always clean and antiseptic.

We understand your adorable love for your darling pooch makes you shower them with kisses. But remember to be careful. As the mouth of your dog contains a plethora of bacteria. It is evident because the tongue is a cleaning tool for your dogs, including their private parts. Veterinarians recommend otherwise when pet parents insistently kiss dogs on their mouths.

Myths Vs Facts: Cat Edition

Cats always land on their feet.

Cats are impressively agile and nimble creatures. We are all aware of feline grace. However, they are not immune to injuries. It is a common misconception that cats always land on their feet. There are instances when a fall from a high place has severely injured cats. Sometimes, it has always been responsible for the cat’s demise. So, although it is great to let your cat satisfy their natural feature of gallivanting, it is safer to keep them from running unabashedly to places at height without supervision.

Cats are solitary babies.

Cats, indeed, prefer a significant amount of time to their own. But who doesn’t? This birthed the misconception that cats admire isolation and do not prefer socialization. Cats are a sucker for warm interaction and social rapport with humans and cats just as much as any other creature. Parents who believed the myth often found their cats with behavioral problems. Too much isolation can make you aggressive, destructive, and annoying. So, get them’ your feline toys and indulge in some jolly good time with your pal.

It is essential to declutter these common pet myths vs. facts, as their spread can sometimes lead to lethal consequences. Make yourself aware of such myths and spread the word further. Help avoid harm to these pretty lovelies.
