Heartbreaking Incidents of Animal Cruelty in India

India is famous for having a considerable number of street animals. While humans should be more sensitive to stray animals, it is quite the opposite in India. The homeless animals, apart from their struggles in life, have to suffer at the hands of humans. Many unsettling incidents of animal cruelty question humanity amongst humans.

This blog aims to bring notice to the poor condition of street animals in India. And the increasing violence against them. It is crucial to get the message out to the public that #StrayLivesMatter. And it is high time we start respecting the animals around us and their rights and preserving animal laws.

Inhumane behavior against animals takes many forms and can be seen all over India. Even though some states and animal welfare organizations work hard to improve the life of strays. It is difficult because of people violating the laws.

5 Heartbreaking Incidents of Animal Cruelty in India

Kitten Burnt Alive with a Lighter

In October 2021, a disturbing animal cruelty case came out in Hyderabad. According to the reports, the incident occurred when the kitten wandered into a residential area. And a bunch of kids started to play with it. But there was a gruesome turn when one of the kids used a lighter to set the kitten on fire. The kitten suffered severe burns and died shortly after the incident.

Animal rights activists highly condemned the incident. And eventually, the local police registered a case under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.

100 Stray Dogs Culled in Hyderabad

Another jaw-wrenching incident came from Hyderabad when the local municipality conducted a mass culling of stray dogs. After many complaints from residents about stray dog attacks, the local authority captured more than 100 dogs and slaughtered them. And the bodies were later found to be dumped in a forest. This incident left the nation in shock. The government bodies that are supposed to protect all laws are violating them.

The local authorities faced criticism and legal action. Animal rights activists and organizations demanded that a more humane and effective approach be adopted.

Brutal Killing of 11 Langurs

Even though there is a vast amount of monkeys and langurs in India, they hardly trouble the people. A report describes the brutal killing of 11 langurs in Rajasthan using sharp objects. Forest officials further added that they were beaten and attacked with acid. The farmers thought that the langurs were harming their crops. And the best solution was to kill them.

The incidents sparked outrage and underscored the need to protect langurs and other primates. Even though several culprits are under arrest, the investigation is still ongoing.

Cow being Run-Over by a Police Vehicle in Chattisgarh

Indians respect and pray for cows as goddesses. But then, incidents like these shatter the whole world. A video went viral on social media when a police vehicle ran over a cow. According to the reports, the cow was crossing a busy road, and the car was speeding. The poor soul suffered many injuries and died on the spot. And the inhumane police officers did not stop.

The public and animal welfare organizations demanded action against the police officers involved in the incident. Eventually, the local police department set an investigation and suspended the driver.

Tar Poured Over Sleeping Street Dog

A disturbing incident of animal cruelty came out in 2021 where a street dog was left to die after workers poured hot tar on it while it was sleeping. It is a common defense of people that we do not attack stray animals but defend ourselves. What was the poor pooch even doing? It was innocently sleeping by the road. And yet suffered severe burns and injuries.

This incident is a tragic reminder of India’s need for stronger animal welfare laws. And the importance of holding the culprits accountable for their actions.

While this blog might bring tears to many animal lovers’ eyes, it highlights the need for greater awareness and education on animal welfare. It is a petition to enforce more robust laws to prevent such incidents of animal cruelty. These are just five heart-breaking incidents, but these animals suffer from regular beating, poisoning, and other inhumane abuses. And this must stop!
