Building A Cat-Friendly Home

The tiring and long stretch of a busy day, shuffling with the pace of modern life, we all desire to come home, hoping to find some solace. Watching that oozing eyes and bright smile get all tail up and immediately rush to cheer is the perfect dosage of much-needed relief. Having a cat as your pet is indeed joyous and exciting, with them being a fantastic companion, a new baby and the cosy friend you longed for. While you are consumed with loving and taking in the bliss that your cat’s presence emanates from in the house, you must evoke mutual feelings in your pet. Before bringing a cat to your abode, ensure your home is cat-friendly, organised and maintained.

Safety comes first

Before playspace, structure to stimulate and challenge your favourite pal, it is essential that you put in place everything that ensures your pet’s safety. Assess and audit all the rooms and spaces in your house for any risk and take care of the same. Negligence of security can lead to terrible accidents and injuries.

Don’t forget the food

This mention might seem unnecessary because “Of course, I’ll feel my cat food!”. Oh, yes, you definitely would. The point of mentioning it is to remind you to do it in a cat-friendly way. It’s usually recommended to go for ceramic or glass food bowls than plastic ones. Use stainless steel only if your cat doesn’t wear a collar. Otherwise, the clink of metals while eating can be off-putting.

Cats spend a good 6 to 7 hours a day catching prey. Twice a meal in one day won’t suffice for their gourmet diet and would leave them with a half-empty stomach.

Here comes the water

Cats naturally look for food and water in separate locations. Keeping that in mind, put the bowl of water in multiple corners of your house and fill it to the brim. Cats also prefer drinking through running water sources, like fountains or water streamers. Glass tumblers and large bowls are also very cat-friendly, and we guarantee that your kitty will love them.

Resting places but higher

Cats are natural climbers and have the instinct to protect themselves, so cats prefer a spot with a decent vantage point. It helps them detect any potential danger beforehand and thus provides them with a sense of comfort and safety. Cats tend to shoot for staircases at the hunch of risk. You can give them a raised cupboard or any other platform to jump off into.

Comfort corners

When the strain of a long day takes a toll on you, all you desire is a few seconds of resting breath and quiet. Cats are no different; they worship their hideaway places above all. Make that space cosy, relaxing, and warm and ensure that those isolation seconds never get disturbed.

Beds, yes, cosy beds

The end of every day should happen with you just submitting your mind and soul to the pile of feathers that is your bed. Your furry friend’s favourite pastime is to curl up in linens and cushions. Cats are effortlessly comfortable sleeping on their owner’s bed or furniture; some even prefer it. Make a comfortable bedding spot around your furnishings and keep them warm. Don’t wash the linens too often, as cats tilt towards familiar scents.

Litter (Trays) everywhere

Always have extra litter trays in your house. Cats are more obsessed with their owners than they are credited with! Fair chance your little pal might want their litter boxes where you spend the most time. You may have to compromise by keeping litter trays in the strangest of places but do it for your love for that tiny darling.

There are millions and massive ways to make your home a sweet abode and cat-friendly. These are just the start; enrich it intensely with stimulating toys and food puzzles, etc. Provide an excellent scratching spot, a room that gives a view of the outside, a playing sphere, and many more that are easier and feasible. Make your cat feel at home, comfortable and sound. Stay tuned to Jaldee Vets blog for more such fun reads!
